Team Suzy: Part Time Bookkeeper Job Description

 Position Overview

I’m looking for a self-driven bookkeeper to help keep my Writer Education business organized so that I can help as many writers as possible get their stories onto the page. I prefer to hire team members who are masters in their profession, but also have a keen interest in the writing world. This position will help me focus on creating new content and programs (both paid and free) to support my writing clients and potential customers, while keeping my books in order.

I’m looking for someone with an excellent eye for detail (can spot a typo a mile away) and who knows how to communicate both verbally (phone, zoom) and written (email, documents, posts, text etc.) in a professional, organized, and efficient way. Discretion and confidentiality are essential for this position.

This role is virtual and can be located anywhere within North America’s time zones. This is an hourly, part-time position that reports directly to me (Suzy Vadori, the CEO/Founder), while also working closely with other key members of my team.

This is an independent contractor position, and you are responsible for your own office, equipment (computer, internet connection), and resources. There will be some upfront organization that may require extra hours (as mutually agreed) in the latter part of 2023. Starting in January, this position will require an average of 5-10 hours per month, with the opportunity to expand the role in the future as Suzy’s business grows.

  • Reconcile entries in QuickBooks Online
  • Manage foreign exchange on CAD/US funds

  • 1 Year minimum experience as a Bookkeeper for any sized business

  • Interest in working with an ambitious, growing business

  • Proficient in QuickBooks Online

  • Experience preparing filings (annual) for Canada’s Goods and Services Tax preferred

  • Willing and able to tackle new technologies to create a bridge to QuickBooks Online

  • Interest in understanding Suzy’s growing business serving writers in order to create streamlined bookkeeping practices

  • Resourceful, flexible, can handle tight deadlines

  • Outstanding communication skills / Ability to create strong relationships with team members

  • Organized

  • Takes ownership and pride in your work

  • Adapts well to changes on-the-go

  • Technologically savvy

  • Can handle honest feedback and course-correct as necessary

  • Gets things done, meets deadlines, and keeps promises

  • Insane attention to detail

  • Ability to anticipate potential issues and propose solutions

  • Coachable/no ego — happy doing high-level projects as well as mundane administrative tasks (there will be a mix of both!)

  • Creative problem solver

  • Deep respect for other humans and valuing all persons as equal

  • An interest in the world of fiction writing, or having a curiosity/willingness to learn about it is a must.
